Birla White is amongst the top 10 white cement players in the world. Over the years, Birla White moved from not only being a premium white cement player but also introducing an array of value added products, and thus leading the category. In the last few years, we have scaled up our CSR programmes to include a larger perspective and have initiated many rural development programs and services in various areas including health and hygiene, education, women empowerment, microfinance, sustainable livelihood, livestock development and infrastructure development.
Health is one of the key indicators that influence the HDI (Human Development Index) growth of any country or state. In the present scenario, rural India is home to over 68% of India's total population, with half of them living below the poverty line, still struggling for better and easy access to health care and services.
The health issues faced by people in rural areas are many and diverse – from severe malaria to uncontrolled diabetes, communicable and non-communicable diseases etc. Postpartum maternal illness is a serious problem in resource-poor settings and contributes to maternal mortality, particularly in rural India.
To minimise these gaps, Birla White has initiated various health care services for the rural community in and around the vicinity of its plant. These services are also aimed towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals i.e. reduce child mortality, improve maternal health and combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases.
India has the world's largest youth population. The future of our nation rides on the shoulders of our youth, and it is essential to make sure that they are given access to quality education. A large majority of India’s youth come from rural areas, it is our duty to ensure that they are given access to education and are encouraged to pursue it.
Through our CSR initiatives, we have helped empower students across India. By awarding scholarships, recognising academic performances, developing talent, conducting motivational activities, etc., the team at Birla White endeavours to inspire a generation of students who aspire to excel academically, in spite of any shortcomings they may face.
At Birla White, we understand the importance of a sustainable livelihood in order to achieve a better standard of living. Through our CSR initiatives, we have not only strived to help those in rural areas acquire a better lifestyle, but also to develop and harness their own abilities, resulting in self sufficiency.
With an array of initiatives such as women’s self-help groups, computer training, beauty courses, motor rewinding programs and tailoring centres, Birla White has helped numerous individuals achieve their goals as well as earn a livelihood.
Birla White’s CSR intervention has led to the beautification of a number of villages around the plant. providing them with a better and stable infrastructure. This has helped to increase the standard of living in these villages.
The construction of roads in Kharia Khangar, the renovation of a community centre at Dhanappa, the creating of a drainage system in Merasia, are some examples of the infrastructure projects that the team at Birla White has carried out so far.
At Birla White, we hope to give back to society in every way possible, in order to help enrich the lives of those in need.
Through our CSR Initiatives, we carry out various welfare programs, addressing healthcare issues, right to education and enhancing the lives of those around us. Social meets, distribution of blankets to those in need, Aadhar Card camps and plantation drives in various villages are testament to the efforts we make in order to give back to our society.
