Frequently Asked Questions
Before painting your walls, preparing them is key so that your paint lasts longer. A wall primer helps create adhesion between the paint and the surface, increases the durability of the paint itself and protects the surface even after it is painted. Wall primers cover the pores and cracks on the wall surface and make the surface resistant to flaking, yellowing, peeling and blistering.
Birla White Extocare is a white cement-based, polymer-modified, water thinnable undercoat wall primer to be used on exterior walls before painting.
Being a water-thinnable product, Birla White Extocare primer can be applied on damp/moist surfaces. This makes it easier to apply as compared to other wall primers in the market. It is ideal to be used directly on cement-plastered/RCC surfaces. Moreover, it is also more economical as compared to other primers. It provides 7X* more adhesion to your wall, reducing paint-peeling.
In contrast to acrylic primer, Birla White Extocare Primer requires no curing after application and is easier to apply. It works better on high rise walls and gives best-in-class whiteness and high opacity. The primer comes with 7x* more adhesion to the topcoat than any primer in the market, thereby preventing peeling of the topcoat. Lastly, it protects the RCC structure from corrosion and is certified by major nationalized laboratories for its superior properties.
To prepare the wall before applying Birla White Extocare, you need to remove all loosely adhering materials, along with the dirt, dust, oil etc. from the surface. For this, you can use either a sandpaper, a blade or a wire brush. Before repainting, the surface should be rubbed by 180 or 220 emery paper so that it becomes smooth.
The recommended mixing ratio for Birla White Extocare is 1 kg product to 1100 ml of water.
To make the slurry, the mixing should be carried out by preferably a mechanical stirrer for 5 minutes. If done manually, it should be mixed for about 10-12 minutes. The final result should be a slurry with a creamy consistency. Once you prepare your slurry, leave it for 5 minutes to get better polymer dispersion. Make sure you use it within 3-3.5 hours.
Once you’re done mixing the slurry thoroughly, apply Birla White Extocare coat on the surface uniformly. You can do this with the help of a painting brush (0.1016 or 0.127 meter) or a roller. Allow the first coat of Birla White Extocare to dry for minimum 2-3 hours before you move on to the topcoat.
While applying Birla White Extocare primer, you have to first ensure that the wall surface pre-wetted. The slurry should be prepared as per the mixing ratio and be used within 3-3.5 hrs of preparation. The substrate must be moist during application and must not be kept without the application of topcoat for a long period of time. Make sure you wear safety goggles & suitable nose masks to protect yourself. Finally, this product should be stored in a cool, dry place and must be kept out of the reach of children.
No, it is important that the dampness in the walls is cured first. We recommend you take help of professionals who administer damp-proof chemical jobs before you repaint your walls. This way, you can ensure that the problem doesn’t recur.
Birla White Extocare is available in a bucket pack of 10 kgs and secondary packs of 1 kg and 5 kgs.
